Burnout Prevention & Recovery Coaching
Emergency Services, Remote & Rural, Nurses, Doctors, Medics
You Know Exactly How to Read a Deteriorating Patient. Or Sense The Danger In The Scene.
When Did You Last Read Yourself the Same Way?
You've had the wellness training & got the pamphlet:
Hydrate. Debrief. Talk to someone.
It's not wrong, it's just not built for what's actually happening to people working in high stakes environments.
Some of what shows up after years on the road and in the emergency scenarios doesn't look like tiredness at all. It looks like competence. Which is exactly why it goes unaddressed for so long.
See if any of this is familiar:
You don't feel much at jobs that would have previously motivated you. You're disengaged, going through the motions, apathetic.
(Depersonalisation)
Doesn't matter what you do, you can't change the system, the outcome or others attitudes - so why bother?
(Diminished Personal Accomplishment)
You're short with the people who had nothing to do with your day, in ways you wouldn't have been before this job. (Compassion fatigue)
You can drive the whole way home and not remember a single minute of it.
(Dissociation)
Off shift, in civvies, you're not entirely sure who you are without the radio, the crew, the role.
(Identity erosion)
You've started treating your own exhaustion as a personal failing, a resilience problem, rather than what it actually is:
(Predictable occupational injury)
Why the Regular Advice Doesn't Touch This
General burnout advice is built for office workers who are overworked. What you're carrying has a different shape. Compassion fatigue, moral injury, trauma exposure, depersonalisation, identity erosion etc. don't resolve with a long weekend. They need to be worked with directly, by someone who can tell the difference between them, because they don't respond to the same approach.
That's the gap I coach into. Not "self-care". Not talk therapy. The actual mechanics of what operational stress does to a nervous system, an identity, and a capacity to feel, and how to get functioning back without waiting for a full breakdown to force the issue.
This meets you as an individual. The person with a past, present and future. The person with family, friends, pets. The person with hobbies and aspirations.
The human behind the uniform.

What Coaching Looks Like
-
One-to-one, online via telehealth.
-
4 sessions, spaced across 8-12 weeks
-
Paced to your roster, not a fixed calendar
-
No generic structure. Every client is individually assessed; the work starts from where you actually are, not a template
-
Draws on hypnotherapy and NLP, where they're useful to you specifically
-
The work moves through: understanding and regulating your own nervous system → re-establishing identity and boundaries outside the job → getting clear on what you actually want and need → rebuilding meaning and direction.

Why Work With Me?
Twenty-two years as a frontline paramedic. I've sat in the driver's seat of every item on that list above. Not read about it, been IN it. I left clinical practice and trained formally in strategic psychotherapy and clinical approaches to burnout and nervous system regulation, specifically so I could work with this properly instead of just relating to it.
I know the job. I know what it is to be human, all the feelings, emotions and short falls. I also know the clinical picture of what the job does to people. Coaching with me means you don't have to translate your experience into civilian language, or educate me on what a job like that actually involves before we can get to the real work. You can read more about my background here:

Who Is This For?
This is for you if you're still functioning. Still on shift, Still showing up. But you know something's shifted and you'd rather deal with it deliberately than wait for it to deal with you. You don't need to be in crisis to start. Most people I work with aren't; they're the ones who noticed early and decided not to ignore it.
Your path may be out of the service altogether. Mine was. This is the perfect preparation for the road out. Discovering who you are outside of the uniform. Establishing your transferrable skills and designing a new future. A new adventure.
You may be brand new to the job and want to learn the skills and mindsets to keep you healthy and motivated.
You are all welcome here.
NB: If you're in immediate distress, please contact: Lifeline 13 11 14 / your service's support / 000. Coaching is the next step after that, not a replacement for it.
