Hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy and a tool for delivery of psychotherapeutic content. It is not a substitute for medical advice or professional assessment and treatment of any medical or mental health disorder.
-
Hypnotherapy is NOT an instant fix. While hypnotherapy often sees rapid results, commitment to the process and individual circumstances will dictate efficacy. Neuroplasticity (change in the brain) takes time and repetition. Most issues take a minimum of four sessions. For good results, it is a requirement to listen to recordings in between sessions and follow any homework tasks that are set.
-
Contrary to stage hypnosis, clinical hypnosis does not put you in a state where your behaviour can be controlled. You are able to break out of trance at any time. For most people it feels like a deep meditation or deep relaxation, while others feel more alert. There is no right or wrong way.
-
This style of therapy has its limitations. Individuals with mental health diagnosis (such as major depressive disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar, borderline personality disorder etc) are advised to consult with a treating psychiatrist or psychologist.
-
During a consultation, it may become evident this therapy is not suitable, or a referral to a medical or psychological professional may be recommended before continuing.
-
Our sessions are confidential. I keep brief notes in secure files as reference for our sessions. Only I have access to these files.
-
Your safety and the safety of others is a priority. As a mandatory reporter, I am obliged by law to breach confidentiality in the following circumstances:
-
A client expresses an intent to harm themselves or another person, or property, or any act of violence.
-
A client discloses abuse or knowledge of abuse where another person has been harmed or is in danger of being harmed.
